Expect to have fun! Your visit will be an enjoyable experience where you will learn a lot about what is going on in your body and why. Here’s what will happen:
Your first appointment will generally be around 45 minutes long and cost $170. This gives us enough time to consider your whole story so we can get to the bottom of what is going on. Try and come in a few minutes early so that you have a chance to fill out a bit of paperwork. Follow up appointments will also be 45 minutes long and cost $150.
Generally, you and your physiotherapist will first chat about what is going on and what your goals are. They will then of course take a look at your body, usually your whole body. If it’s something pelvic floor related, then this may involve an internal exam as well (performed by one of our female Physiotherapists specialising in women).
One thing that we often use here at The Physiotherapy Clinic is our Real Time Ultrasound. It allows us to look at deeper muscles including the core, to see if they are working correctly. Clients often love this as it allows them to get a better understanding of these deeper muscles as well.
Once the physiotherapist knows what is going on they will discuss with you what needs to be done to help. This may involve hands-on therapy like muscles releases (deep massage) and needling (like acupuncture); but will almost always involve some sort of exercise. Sometimes we may recommend a group exercise class and sometimes we may even refer you on to someone else if we think it’s appropriate (eg: dietician or sports doctor).
Although you do not need a referral to come and see us, if you have been sent to us by someone (another physio, a personal trainer, a specialist doctor, your GP, etc), then expect a detailed letter to be written back to them about your visit with us.
Make sure you bring your private health fund card if you have one as you can claim it on the spot! Unfortunately, you cannot claim your treatment under Medicare unless you have been given an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC) from your GP. Not everyone can get this type of plan and your GP is the best person to talk to about whether or not you are eligible.
